Our Review

The Netgate 2100 is Netgate’s official direct replacement for the 3100. However, as you can see from the comparison table, it is not quite the same in terms of CPU power and throughput. The Netgate 2100, like the 3100, is a compact desktop device and the price difference with the 3100 is not too big.  Like the 3100, the 2100 is ideal for home users and remote worker looking to migrate from a basic/flat network to a more complex segmented setup. If you do not need 2.44Gbps of total WAN throughput you would have got with the Netgate 3100 and you are happy with getting close to 1Gbps (~964 Mbps according to Netgate) then the Netgate 2100 is a good replacement.

The Netgate 6100 is one of the most versatile and powerful security gateways in its class. The Netgate 6100 is the right choice for deployments that require more compute resources to support the use of multiple pfSense add-on packages and VPN performance to support multiple user and site-to-site connections. This is a low power system built for long life and solid reliability in a compact footprint. Although the price gap with the old Netgate 3100 is quite significant, the Netgate 6100 could be a perfect replacement and an ideal edge gateway solution for any growing organization in need of versatile network connectivity.

With both units there is an option to purchase professional support which is not common in this segment of the market.
